Definición del mensaje (Johanna Calle Gregg)

Una de sus primeras series de obras, titulada “Nombre Propio”, reúne trabajos elaborados entre 1997 y 1999 y que consisten en pequeños retratos bordados inspirados en los rostros de los niños que el Instituto Colombiano de Bienestar Familiar publicaba en los diarios de circulación nacional. La obra fue exhibida inicialmente en la Alianza Francesa.

The themes of her work arise from the Latin American reality in which the artist, moved by curiosity and compassion, discovers the questions that she wishes to explore: the fragility of children in the midst of the conflicts that plague Colombia; the unconstrained growth of urban settlements; the defenselessness of displaced peasant farmers; environmental assaults in one of the planet’s most biodiverse countries; and the loss of linguistic richness, among so many others.
