His relationship with art began while still a high school student when he joined the Departmental Institute of Fine Arts. His work emerged amid the cultural upheaval that transformed Cali into a locus of the arts in the 1970s, in dialogue with projects such as Ciudad Solar and the Experimental Theater. Following an in-depth exploration of drawing and photography, around the 1990s he made a foray into the use of new materials and techniques, receiving significant accolades for his work combining drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, video and installation. In 2018 he was honored with the Hasselblad Foundation International Award in Photography. |

Nació en Popayán en 1951, pero se trasladó desde su niñez a Cali, ciudad donde reside y trabaja actualmente. Su relación con el arte inició siendo aún estudiante de secundaria, cuando ingresó al Instituto Departamental de Bellas Artes. Su obra emergió en medio de la agitación cultural que convirtió a Cali en epicentro de las artes en los años setenta, en conversación con proyectos como Ciudad Solar y el Teatro Experimental. Tras una profunda exploración del dibujo y la fotografía, hacia los años noventa incursionó en el manejo de nuevas materias y técnicas, obteniendo grandes reconocimientos por sus trabajos que integran dibujo, fotografía, grabado, escultura, video e instalación. En 2018 fue galardonado con el Premio Internacional de Fotografía de la Fundación Hasselblad. |
